Let it snow! The hardcore Zumbadores

So, as y’all know, yesterday we had our first snowfall of the season. Schools were closed, people didn’t go to work, traffic was bad with the icy roads and wintry mix…..

But a great group of very dedicated dancers overcame the bad weather and still came to Zumba class with me! It was so great that we had so many people in class!

And I rewarded them with the most KICKBUTT class we’ve had this year. We got motivated by songs from Beyonce, Juan Luis Guerra (Merengue), Frankie Negron (Salsa). I was wearing a heart rate monitor and I burned 550 calories during class. Alicea was also wearing a heart rate monitor and I wouldn’t doubt she went way over my numbers. She had to leave class early last night so I just emailed her this morning to find out how many calories she really burned!!!

Since I instruct Zumba classes all the time and I’m more used to the workouts, burning 550 calories during class is among the lower numbers you can expect to burn during class. But it really depends on how hard you dance during class. You can use low-impact dance moves and still get your butt kicked!

I’ve been working on a chair dance routine for y’all so that you can have a nice little dance you can do on Valentine’s night for your man (or for your partner for the night!). Heck, you don’t even have to wait for Valentine’s Day, do it anytime!! I bet you think that Sunny, my boyfriend, is one lucky lucky man (and yes he is!). We’ll probably do this sexy chair dance on a Sunday (when there are no guys in class), since we’ve got easier access to a set of chairs then. I’ll be sure to give you moves that will make you blush and your heart race =)

At the end of class last night, Tracy, one of our Meetup members, said some really nice words about me to the Zumba newbies. She said that she’s been to many Zumba classes in the area and that I’m the best instructor. She actually belongs to a health club where she has access to free Zumba classes all the time, but she’d still rather come to mine since I motivate her the best. I swear I didn’t pay her to say that ;-) Actually, we have a good number of people who can Zumba for free through their health club memberships, but stick with Coco. So I’m so lucky to have such loyal people in my class!!

So, one of the lessons learned last night was:
Don’t use bad weather as an excuse to keep you from staying fit. Walk or metro to class to stay off the icy roads. If you decide to stay home when the weather is bad, do as my other clients did last night. Use your Zumba DVDs and party at home!!

Abrazos (Hugs),

Coco
