where to sled in Arlington VA

Time to get some exercise via sledding and snowball fights! Found this list on the Arlington Insider web page and I’ll let you know if I find any other good hills in Arlington for sledding! I’ve left out some repeat locations from the original list:

Columbia Commons: in the back of building 5100, kids enjoy going down the hill. It’s a nice hill located at 5100 South 8th Rd. in Arlington, VA.
- Edna

Jamestown School: My kid’s favorite sledding spot is the long hill behind Jamestown School. We have also sledded on the steep hill behing McKinley School (we call it killer hill), and the Reed school slopes.
- William

Tuckahoe Park: The field next to the park and the school. Place your sled at the top of the hill , next to Sycamore street and sled down onto the field.
- Sandra

Lubber Run Park: the paved trail that leads from the top of the amphitheatre down to the stream bank. Moderately steep, fairly long run and the stream at the bottom of the run make for excitement.
- Ritch

Nottingham Elementary: wicked fast and fun.
- Kevin

Hayes Street Hill: Back in the day, in south Arlington, down the Hayes St. hill, from Fort Scott Drive to 26th Street, or maybe beyond to 25th street, and – if the snow was especially fast – all the way to 24th Street. An absolutely amazing hill, enthralling if you will, without exaggeration. And the physical nature of the Hayes hill street itself, as well as other streets intersecting or adjoining the street have not changed significantly..
- Douglas

Glencarlyn Park: There’s a hill in Glencarlyn park we all sled down on and have for the last 40 years. We pack it down, bank it and then have a ball going down it.
- Lynn

Ashlawn Elementary: Our favorite sledding hill is the park behind Ashlawn Elementary. Great hill in all snow conditions..
- Daniel

Reed School Hill
- Bill

HB Woodlawn : is hot for sledding, with the perfecting landing of a big soccer field.
- Robert

Update: So I ended up google mapping all of these locations and man was that a chore! Since I live right near the Ballston metro my friend and I decided to walk around the neighborhood and scout around to see if we can find another sledding hill than the ones listed here. A random person saw us with the sled and told us to go to 17th and Utah street, in the neighborhood called Waverly Hills.

We trekked over several blocks and found the street, a perfect unplowed, hilly street to sled on with few people to compete with for slope time! After many runs and freezing butt, I must say I was satisfied and got my exercise in full of walking up the snowy hill and squealing down it =)

My not so secret fantasy

Blue_Suit_dancing_Peter_Griffin

Ok, so I have a not-so-secret fantasy….that I’ve been so lucky to fulfill lately. I’ve been up on the stage as an entertainer getting hundreds of people to try Zumba and have a blast doing it…..Fed employees in suits!! The ultimate fantasy is to be a pop star performing in a huge stadium but I’m past my prime now!!

Earlier this month I was at the Combined Federal Campaign’s Leadership Conference at the Hyatt Regency in downtown DC with my Zumba backup dancers, sisters Sarah and Rackel Jurdi. Our mission: to get the 700 campaign managers to consider Zumba Classes as an fun event they could use for fundraising. Oh man I had no idea how the crowd would react when I make all of them shake their booties.

Believe, persist, and it will happen

Ok babes, time for Coco to get on her soapbox.

Tonight, we had a full studio of clients in Zumba class. You could barely fit any more people in there. It was so much fun and I treated everyone to follow a coy, sexy dance with the towels!! We also gave mucho props to Meagan, one of my personal training clients, who excitedly broke the news to me today that she has shed 22 pounds since January!!! I’m sooooo proud that I don’t even know how to express it.

believe

So, today I want to talk to you about “believing in yourself”. Yes, let me say it again, BELIEVING IN YOURSELF. Whatever you are striving for, when everyone else says you can’t do it and that you are crazy, loco, will totally fail, the most important person you need to listen to is yourself. I don’t care how trite my statement is but it’s sooo true. I love getting feedback from others — and I think it’s important to hear other people out. So you can listen, but don’t follow what people say if you don’t want to!! Not even if what they say makes sense!!

In the heights with food, fun, and fitness

Wow, what an AMAZING party we had last Sunday! This was the mother of all CocoFitness parties. Last July I threw a 10 person party, then this Feb we had 40 people, and now….voila….80 people!! How fast CocoFitness grows!! I need to put aside a bigger party budget =)

Everyone asked when the next party is…and…drum roll….most likely the fall, especially when I get many more clients. So far we’re doing great with the growth ;)

How far Sunny will go to get a juicy burger

Sunny loves a good burger…yummy… sometimes he adores food more than he adores me ;) He wants a house only so that he can finally own a real grill, not the dinky electric one that is currently perched on our condo balcony.

So, look what Sunny did yesterday to get his hands on a nice, juicy burger.
